North CyprusTurkey

North Cyprus is the perfect island retreat for those who wish to escape from the pressures of modern life - you can feel the pace of life slowing down the moment you step off the plane and crime is virtually non-existent. North Cyprus is possibly the only Mediterranean holiday destination which remains unspoilt and Cypriots are proud of the fact that there are  no high-rise concrete blocks, and a lack of rowdy night life  and  lager louts'. In fact those who have been lucky enough to discover the  unspoilt resorts of Kyrenia and Famagusta prefer to keep their discovery a closely guarded secret!

The natural beauty of North Cyprus is breath-taking, from the stunning mountain scenery to the golden sandy beaches. It will come as no surprise that according to legend this island was given to Cleopatra by  Julius Caesar as a token of his love! Throughout its long and chequered past Cyprus has been home to many different civilisations, the remains of which can be seen in the wealth of medieval castles, abbeys and ampitheatres, ensuring that those with a passion for history will not be disappointed.

Culturally as well, the Turkish Cypriots have absorbed many different influences, and the British are greeted as long departed friends this is not only traditional Turkish hospitality, but also affection for the nation who lived here in harmony with the Turks for so many years. Indeed there is still a sizeable expatriate community and you will find the influences of the British everywhere tangible-Turkish Cypriots drive on the left hand side of the road, the majority speak excellent English, and you will note those extras touches which show their understanding of the expectations of their British guests.

Local services and goods are relatively cheap, as is eating out and car hire, which more than compensates for the relatively expensive cost of accommodation and flights. Whether you choose to stay in Kyrenia or Famagusta there is much to explore in north Cyprus; from the bustling markets of Nicosia (Lefkosa), to the remote villages of the Karpaz Peninsula or the  citrus groves of Güzelyurt.

Above all, North Cyprus offers an unsophisticated charm and a taste of local culture, which together with the excellent service and the hospitality of the local people, will ensure that you return to the UK completely refreshed and intent on returning to this largely undiscovered holiday paradise time and again.
